How to Check a Bible Sample at Actual Size

A phone can make almost any page readable when you zoom in. That does not show how the printed text will look in your hands. Use the actual PDF sample to check the page layout before choosing a book.

Start with the original PDF

Download the sample from the product page. A screenshot or a compressed social image may soften the letters. In the PDF, inspect an ordinary page with paragraphs, verse numbers and red lettering, rather than only the title page.

Check that you have opened the sample for the edition you want. The White Edition uses black text on white pages. The Black Edition uses white text on black printed pages. Both contain the English WEB New Testament, with Jesus’ words in red.

Print a test page without scaling

In Acrobat’s print settings, choose Actual size rather than Fit. Adobe describes Actual size as printing without scaling. Use paper large enough for the page, and check the printer preview before printing. If the page is clipped, change the paper or orientation rather than shrinking it and treating the result as a size test.

Our A5 page format is approximately 148 × 210 mm. Check the printed page dimensions with a ruler. Printer settings can override an application setting, so the measurement matters more than the label on screen.

Know what a home print can show

A home print helps you judge type size, column width and spacing. It is not a production proof: your printer, ink and paper differ from the book printer’s materials. This matters particularly for a page with a large black background and red text.

Read a paragraph at your normal distance and in your usual light. If you still need to enlarge it, choose based on that experience. A photograph of an attractive cover cannot answer the question of whether the interior suits your reading needs.
